Home Sweet Home
Refurbishing my Hometown Library: to restore hope one book and block at a time
Where It All Began
I come from a small yet vibrant town called Teshie, a lively suburb nestled along the coast of Accra, Ghana. Known for its rich fishing traditions and its most popular festival, Homowo, Teshie is a place filled with hearts and hopes — but also burdened with challenges.
Growing up here, I experienced firsthand what it means to go without access to quality education, clean water, and often without resources most children elsewhere might take for granted. But those long walks for water and learning built resilience — and planted a seed to give back.
The Power of a Library
Ideally, at the heart of every community lies a space where stories come alive, curiosity is nurtured, and futures are quietly shaped: a library.
As part of my ongoing Bike2MyRoots journey — a charity project that combines cycling, storytelling, and giving back — I’m thrilled to announce a deeply personal initiative: refurbishing the library in my hometown.
More Than Just a Building
This isn’t just about fixing up an old building. It’s about breathing new life into a place that shaped mine. From the first book I ever borrowed to quiet afternoons spent dreaming among the shelves, this library was more than a space — it was a spark. Now, I want to help reignite that spark for a new generation.
What's the Goal?
To create a vibrant, welcoming, and modern space that encourages learning, literacy, and community connection. From cozy reading corners to updated tech access, the refurbished library will serve as a beacon for young minds and others alike.
Why It Matters
- Access to Knowledge: Not every child has books at home — but they will have at the library and borrow for home use if necessary.
- Community Pride: A revitalized library strengthens the heart of the community.
- Legacy: This is about giving back to the place that laid down my resilient foundation.
Want to Get Involved?
Whether you're a fellow book lover, cycling enthusiast, or community supporter — your help can make a real difference.
Let’s turn the page together and write the next chapter for the library.
In addition to the main fundraising campaign to support educational initiatives across Ghana in partnership with EduSpots, I have also set up a dedicated GoFundMe page to help cover some logistical and organizational costs of this epic journey. Accordingly, a portion of the donations I receive will be transparently and responsibly allocated towards the refurbishment of the library. To ensure full transparency, I’ll regularly share photo and video updates of the library renovation progress across my social media channels and official website. If you believe in this cause and feel inspired to support — every contribution, no matter the size, makes a real difference.
Let’s join our efforts together to raise €10,000 to transform the local library into a modern, accessible learning center for the children and people of Teshie.
Your Donations Will Help:
